Inclusion is no longer a corporate initiative; it’s a moral and strategic imperative. Across Africa, organizations are being called to move beyond statements of intent toward measurable, lasting change. The South African Workplace Equality Index (SAWEI) stands as an independently validated framework for measuring LGBT+ workplace inclusion.
SAWEI invites businesses, NGOs, and government institutions
to align with a shared vision: to build workplaces where every individual can
thrive, contribute, and belong.
The Power of Measurable Inclusion
SAWEI is not simply an assessment tool, it is a roadmap that translates policy into practice. Developed to provide credible benchmarking, SAWEI enables organizations to measure their progress against clear inclusion standards while ensuring compliance with South Africa’s legal and policy frameworks such as the Employment Equity Act, POPIA, and the National Development Plan 2030.
The Index is also firmly aligned with the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals, supporting gender equality, decent work, and
reduced inequalities. By participating, organizations commit to embedding
inclusion as a strategic driver of performance, innovation, and social justice.
A Shared Vision for Change
Modern Centric Holdings and I AM ME stand proudly alongside
SAWEI in promoting a future where inclusion is not a checkbox but a culture.
Both organizations are deeply committed to empowering diverse communities and
creating equitable pathways for growth.
Through their work, they have witnessed the transformative power of inclusion in action, how representation strengthens workplaces, how belonging fuels innovation, and how courageous leadership opens doors for those historically marginalized.

Driving Transformation Together
The SAWEI 2026–2030 framework provides a clear, practical structure for organizations to evaluate and enhance their inclusion efforts. It focuses on areas that shape the lived experience of employees, from inclusive governance and recruitment practices to equitable pay, wellness, and community impact.
Each participating organization undergoes an evidence-based
evaluation that respects privacy and confidentiality through full POPIA
compliance. The process is designed to be efficient, taking less than half an
hour to complete, yet rigorous enough to generate meaningful insight and
actionable outcomes.
A Call to Align
Every organization that participates contributes to a national movement, a collective commitment to equality, dignity, and sustainable growth. By joining SAWEI, leaders take a visible stand for inclusion and help shape an economy where fairness is a foundation, not a favour.

So, the call is clear. Let us lead with courage. Let us
measure our progress with integrity. And let us create workplaces where every
person, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, feels
empowered to bring their full self to work.
Inclusion is not an outcome, it’s a commitment. And the time
to commit is now.
